Michael has been on an extraordinary journey since his admission as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and High Court of Australia in 1978. With a vibrant personality and a zest for life, Michael has enjoyed an exemplary legal career.

After heading up another successful local firm, in 1996, Michael made the decision to open Shipton & Associates. What started out as Michael, sitting alone, working from his dining room table in his home at Balgowlah, has turned into a well established and trusted legal practice. Since the inception of Shipton & Associates, Michael has gone to great lengths to build and shape an experienced and likeminded team of legal experts. In 2017, Michael made the decision to pass the legacy of Shipton & Associates to his trusted longstanding employee, and friend, Claire Nielsen who is now the Principal Solicitor of Shipton & Associates.

Michael has gained a wealth of experience from his long spanning legal career and has practiced across a variety of areas of law including family law, wills and estates, conveyancing, commercial and property matters (including leasing) and criminal law.

With 15 years’ experience as a duty solicitor at the Bidura Children’s Court at Glebe, as well as extensive experience in the Federal and Family Court of Australia, Supreme Court of New South Wales, District Court and Manly Local Court litigation, Michael knows how to navigate legal processes and advocate for his clients.

Michael has an extensive background in economics and commercial matters – this allows him to provide unparalleled insights into business, company and trust matters.

Michael also possesses over 30 years’ of experience in property law and conveyancing – which is now his main practice area. Michael has extensive experience in all aspects of conveyancing, including leasehold and company title.

For the last 30 years, Michael has been actively supporting the Northern Beaches community by providing free legal advice through the Manly Community Centre, helping to restore heritage buildings and sharing his wisdom and experience with local schools during the Mock trial Competition – he’s a true guardian of the community!

OUTSIDE OF THE LAW

When Michael isn’t wearing his ‘lawyer hat’, you can find him enjoying a hot chocolate at the snow and brushing up on his love of art by visiting the various art expeditions around Sydney.

Michael also loves to spring a good ‘trivia’ question on the team – to see if we are paying attention!
