Janet Scott

Janet has worked in law for over 30 years. After obtaining her initial legal qualifications in the UK, she moved to Australia, undertook further study to achieve local recognition and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and High Court of Australia in 1986. Since that time she has worked in legal firms, both in the city and on the northern beaches, handling a wide range of matters encompassing fields such as:

  • Divorce, parenting (including adoption), property, maintenance in matrimonial, de facto and same sex relationships
  • Wills, estates, contested wills and elder law
  • Companies, businesses and trusts including the conduct of litigation arising from disputes
  • Property law including home purchase, commercial premises, investment properties, leasing and particularly expertise in old system and leasehold land 

Janet is a strong advocate for negotiated settlement of disputes and has undertaken training in mediation and collaborative law. She also has pursued training in accounting and has hands-on experience managing a small business as well as having worked in engineering, publishing and as an editor of legal texts. Her wide experiences bring a breadth of knowledge and understanding to her legal work. She has contributed her time to provide practical voluntary service in many spheres of the community. She has given much of her time to the youth of the Northern Beaches area including instigating and establishing a much-needed After School Centre at the local school, serving as a leading member of numerous committees and in the scouting movement.
